Michael Brown was ordained as minister of Word and sacraments in the United Reformed Churches of North America on September 19, 2004 at the Escondido United Reformed Church. He presently serves as pastor of Christ United Reformed Church in Santee, CA.
He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Seminary California where he studied for four years under scholars such as Dr. Michael Horton, Dr. W. Robert Godfrey, Dr. R. Scott Clark, Dr. David VanDrunen, Dr. Hywel Jones, Dr. D.G. Hart and Dr. Meredith Kline.
He has published articles in Banner of Truth, The Outlook, and Modern Reformation magazines, and is the editor and a contributing author of Called to Serve: Essays for Elders and Deacons (Grandville: Reformed Fellowship, 2007).
Mike Brown is a native Southern Californian. He did not grow up in Reformed churches but in the Calvary Chapel movement where he served as a “youth pastor” for a short period of time. He became interested in Reformed theology, however, through the writings of Martyn Lloyd-Jones, J. Gresham Machen, and by “The White Horse Inn” radio program. He has a passion to preach the gospel, teach theology and help people learn the riches of the Reformed faith. Mike and his wife Janie were married in 1990, and have four children: Micaela, Alysia, Isaac and Iain. They live in San Diego.
Rev. Dr. Michael Horton,
Associate Pastor
Besides being Associate Pastor to Christ URC, Dr. Michael Horton is the J. Gresham Machen professor of systematic theology and apologetics at Westminster Seminary California. He also finds time to be the main host of The White Horse Inn radio broadcast and editor-in-chief of Modern Reformation magazine.
Dr. Horton received his M.A. from Westminster Seminary California, his Ph.D. from Wycliff Hall, Oxford and the University of Coventry, and completed a Research Fellowship at Yale University Divinity School.
He is the author/editor of more than fifteen books, including Putting Amazing Back Into Grace, A Better Way: Rediscovering the Drama of God-Centered Worship, The Law of Perfect Freedom, Made In America, Where In The World Is The Church, We Believe: Recovering the Essentials of the Apostles' Creed, Covenant & Eschatology, Lord and Servant, God of Promise: Introducing Covenant Theology, and many others. His most recent book is Too Good to be True: Finding Hope in a World of Hype.
We are privileged to have him regularly teach our Adult Sunday School class. He and his wife, Lisa, and their four children live in Escondido, California.
