PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal and almighty Father, to you belong righteousness, mercy, and forgiveness. But to us belongs open shame for we are miserable sinners. We are conceived and born in sin. We are prone to do evil and incapable of any good. We have grievously sinned against all of your commandments. We have never kept any of them. By your righteous judgment, we deserve ruin and condemnation. We are grieved that we have offended you. We condemn ourselves and our sins with true repentance. And we seek your grace to relieve our distress.
If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. For with you there is steadfast love, and with you there is plentiful redemption.
Redeem us from all our iniquities for the sake of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Work in us that godly sorrow for sin that produces repentance and leads to salvation without regret. Mortify our sins, strengthen our faith, and produce in us the fruit of the Spirit which is pleasing to you. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen. (Followed by silent confession)
