PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful and gracious Father, to you belong righteousness, mercy, and forgiveness. But to us belongs open shame for we are miserable sinners. We were brought forth in iniquity and conceived in sin. Against you, you only, we have sinned and done what is evil in your sight. Our sins are always before us. So we come before you with broken spirits. But we know that broken and contrite hearts you will not despise.

Have mercy on us, O Father, according to your steadfast love. According to your abundant mercy, blot out our transgressions. Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity, and cleanse us from our sins. Purge us with the Spirit of Jesus, and we shall be clean. Wash us with the blood of your Son, and we will be whiter than snow. Hide your face from our sins, and blot out all our iniquities. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Let us hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Restore to us the joy of your salvation, and uphold us with a willing spirit. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, Amen. (Followed by silent confession)
